Gomoku: Five Stones in a Row is a board-based logic game designed for two players. In a square grid of 19×19 intersections (in the classic version) or 15×15 (in the contemporary sports version) points, participants take turns positioning stones in two different colors. The victor is the player who first creates an unbroken line of five stones in his own color, either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. There are numerous variations, with differences in specific rule details. It is thought that the game was created in China over two thousand years ago. Today, Gomoku is recognized worldwide, and sporting events are organized using it.
